Reasons of Becoming Shopping Addicted
shopping  Shopping addiction is like a drug, gambling or alcoholic addiction. One should look for its reasons in the childhood of every particular individual. Such people suffered from the deficit of tenderness in childhood and human care. A person can grow in a average statistical family and receive good education but have a strong need in care and love.

When such people grow up, they can find attention in various stores. Such addiction can also be found with impetuous people who usually do something at first and then think about possible consequences of their actions. As a rule, when they choose what to buy in a store, they do not even try to think if they have the needed amount of money with them or not. “We'll see what happens” – this is what they basically think in a store before they go to the pay desk. It is noteworthy that there are a lot more shopping addicts in the countries, which widely practice credit cards. They may go out in a compulsive or uncontrolled manner and buy many of the same items all at once, items they may not want or need, may feel guilty after a spending spree then get depressed, so to combat the depression go out and spend more money.

This is a very serious addiction and should not be looked upon any differently to any other  addiction. The absence of cash gives them more freedom in shopping, so to speak: they do not see the actual money and they can also reach a negative balance on a card too.

Some individuals are multi addicted, often abusing prescribed drugs or alcohol in addition to the compulsive spending. The hopelessness can be stoped by successful treatment and  people can return to normal life. As with other addictions, success follows an honest admission of the problem and the seeking of help from others.

Many organizations can provide help and support for those struggling with a shopping addiction. Compulsive spending is often coupled with other addictive behaviours so working with the right kind of professional help along with the support of a self-help group is the most effective treatment.

It is difficult to ascertain the full extent of this problem as statistics has not been compiled, although it is known that more people are identifying this as a problem and seeking professional help.

Like with any other addiction, the resulting overwhelming sense of shame, remorse and guilt accompanied by feelings of hopelessness and helplessness, lead to despair. Frequently the treatment for the shopping addiction is more addictive behaviour resulting in more self destructive feelings. The after-effects of shopping addiction are obvious: fear of discovery, high levels of debt and retribution leading to more denial and desperate acts to cover up the behaviour. For those closely connected to the sufferer life becomes frightening and unpredictable with a growing sense of uselessness and the belief that the sufferer is deliberately causing chaos and a feeling of desperation.
