| Sexual Addiction Causes | There are lots of different causes of sexual addiction. They include:
The history of psychological and emotional disorders like paranoia
Childhood trauma like rape
Bipolar disorder
Neurological disorders such as epilepsy
Obsessive-compulsive disorder
Hereditary. One study discovered that 80% of recovering sex addicts informed some type of addiction in their family’s origin.
Presence of sexual abuse before. One more study showed at 82% of sex addicts reported being sexually abused as children.
Biochemical abnormality. The brain tells the sex addict that having illegal sex is good the same way it tells over-eaters that over eating is good. The addicted brain deceives the body by making strong biochemical rewards (levels of PEA phenylethylamine) that increase euphoria for self-destructive behavior.
Stress can play a significant role in producing compulsive sexual behavior.
Escapism is using sex as an activity or a substance to stay away from dealing with rough thoughts or feelings that need to be faced.
Abusing power and feeding the ego to manage others sexually is frequent in high places
Impulse control disorder
Narcissistic personality disorder
Dependent personality disorder
Three-stage progressions of becoming addicted exist, they are the following: 1. In the first stage, the person actually thinks that his or her addiction is healthy, normal, and pleasurable. 2. In the second stage, the person has contradictory thoughts about whether or not the addiction is healthy, normal, and pleasurable. 3. In the third stage, the person understands that they are addicted and feels unhealthy, abnormal, and more pain than pleasure, yet he or she maintains the addiction.
