• Counseling. Individual or family consultation with a psychologist  or  psychiatrist may help you to quit using addicting drugs. Behavior therapies can help you find out the new ways to control your drug cravings, suggest strategies to prevent set-back and avoid drugs. Counseling also can include talking about your relationships with family and friends, legal and job problems. Consultation with family members can help them to be more communicative and supportive.

• Treatment programs. Treatment programs usually include educational and therapy section concentrated on establishing soberness and preventing relapse. This may include family, group or individual  sessions. These programs are available in various settings from outpatient to inpatient and residential programs.

  • Self-help groups. Many of these groups tend to use the 12-step program developed by Alcoholics Anonymous. Self-help groups, such as Narcotics Anonymous are developed for people addicted to drugs, narcotics and anodynes. Addiction is a chronic disorder with a danger of relapse and that ongoing maintenance treatment, which may include counseling, medications and attending self-help group meetings which prevent a relapse.
