The act of adding drugs or alcohol to someone’s beverage (often alcoholic) without their agreement is called drink spiking. The greater part of drink spiking cases happens with the purpose of sexual assault or robbery.
There are some other reasons for such action such as kidnapping, anger toward the chosen victim or entertainment. The most common targets of this illegal crime are young women, although about 11% of men are victims as well. As a rule, most cases of drink spiking take place in night clubs, bars and parties. Faintness, blackouts, poor harmonization and decreased inhibitions are just a few of the effects of drink spiking.
When someone’s drink is spiked, they often don’t understand it until it is far too late and they are either insensible or unable to communicate appropriately. Unluckily, in a great amount of drink spiking cases the victim doesn’t even realize anything is wrong until the occasion has passed and they awaken uncomfortable and with memory loss. Most people who have their drinks spiked finally faint, which usually happens in a few hours. A faint can continue up to 12 hours and is followed by memory loss.
Drugs that are Used for Drink Spiking Types of drugs and alcohol involved in drink spiking include: Alcohol – This is conceivably the most popular drug which is used for drink spiking. Alcohol can be used both by adding it to a non-alcoholic beverage or by adding extra shots to an already alcoholic beverage. It is interesting that in some drink combinations, you may not even be able to taste added alcohol.
GHB – This drug has the same effects as after ecstasy intake. GHB most often comes in the form of a liquid or powder. Its effects occur in 10 to 20 minutes. In actual fact this drug can be very hazardous but becomes even more dangerous when added to alcohol. Among the effects of GHB is inability to speak properly, poor motor coordination, sleepiness, amnesia, hallucinations and short-term comas. GHB is almost insensible; it is odorless and colorless, although it may have a somewhat salty or bitter taste to it.
