Sometimes it is very hard to control the behavior of addicted ones. Some people miss work, school, or social activities to binge eat. Obese people with binge eating disorder often feel bad about themselves and are obsessed with their appearance and may avoid social gatherings.
The treatment for binge eating disorder includes: • Cognitive-behavioral therapy teaches people how to cope with stressful situations, how to keep track of their eating and change their unhealthy eating habits, helps them feel better about their body shape and weight. • Interpersonal psychotherapy helps people to make changes in problem areas, to examine their relationships with family and friends. • Pharmacotherapy (using antidepressants may be helpful for someone). • Self-help groups also may be a source of treatment.
Treatment can take several months or longer while the individual learns how to have a healthier approach to food. Although weight-control programs are helpful for some people affected by binge eating disorder.
