What may cause binge eating disorder? The causes of binge eating disorder are still unknown. Numerous researches show that almost the half of all people with binge eating disorder have histories of depression. Whether depression causes or effects binge eating disorder is unclear. Many people who binge eat tell that anger, sadness, boredom, anxiety or other negative emotions can trigger a binge event. Some people binge after skipping meals, not eating enough food each day or avoiding certain kinds of food. Researchers also suggest that genes may be involved in binge eating since the disorder often occurs in several members of one family. Scientists are also examining how body metabolism (the way the body uses energy) and brain's function may affect binge eating.
